Little did Kevin know, Gretchen from Sugahs Cookies and Cakes was coming over to spend the day with them! Once she arrived, Kevin knew he was going to have a good day! Dionna and Gretchen started to put some yummy ingredients out and the fun began.
They explained that this was a special dog cake that was made with all natural and healthy ingredients! Sweet! (pun intended)
Easy Homemade Dog Cupcakes Recipe
The moment we’ve have all been waiting for. Here is one of Sugah’s easy homemade dog cupcake recipe that can be made for your next dog party:
This recipe will make 1 cake or around 16 human sized cupcakes
2 cups flour- whole wheat or oat flour. If your dog eats grain free, use coconut flour
1 ½ cup of water to the side
½ cup peanut butter - DO NOT use peanut butter that contains xylitol– it is toxic for dogs! Adams or other organic peanut butter is the best
⅓ cup of unsweetened applesauce
⅓ cup plain low fat yogurt - avoid using flavored yogurts as they can have added ingredients/ sugars– if you want flavors, add your own fruit.
¼ cup coconut oil
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp baking soda
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray baking pans if not using cupcake liner.
Measure and set aside the flour and baking soda in a bowl.
In a separate larger bowl, mix together the yogurt, applesauce, and egg. If your peanut butter is stiff, melt the coconut oil in a larger microwave safe bowl and once it is melted, mix in the peanut butter with a fork until creamy.
Add to the wet ingredients you have already mixed.
Begin to add dry mix and store.
Use the water you have set aside to add as needed. You want the batter to be like a muffin or thicker brownie consistency.
Put in the oven for 12-14 minutes. Check with a toothpick. If it comes out clean they are ready to cool, if not add another minute.
Easy Homemade Dog Cupcakes Icing Recipe
You cannot have a cake without the icing!
Low or nonfat cream cheese
Hand mixer
Few small bowls
Natural food color gels
Fruits
Be sure to have the cream cheese at room temperature so it is softer and easier to mix into whipped cream cheese.
Put chunks into a mixing bowl and whip with a hand mixer until it is a fluffy consistency.
If you want different colors, set aside in different bowls.
You can then add the neutral food color gels or use a small blender to liquify items like berries into the whipped cream cheese.
Decorate!
Would Kevin Recommend?
That’s it! Now the fun part…bite into it and enjoy! I think you can actually taste the love that went into making it! Would Kevin recommend it? 1,000,000 times yes!
Be sure to store the icing and cakes in the fridge. If keeping them in a sealed container, it will stay good for a week– which means you can have some cake for a while and make everyday a celebration!
I hope you enjoy making this homemade dog cake with your furry friend. If you want to be extra kind, give your pup a little preview taste of the batter– what is baking without taste testing the batter? Kevin and his brother, Benny, tasted it….. two paws up!
