Best Dog Friendly Beach on the Oregon Coast
If you’ve been following Kevin since the beginning, or you just happen to stumble across his page recently, (hi, we’re glad you’re here) you know that Mom is his favorite human IN. THE. WORLD!
Kevin’s mom is a busy lady and more often than not, juggling many things at once. She’s had a lot going on lately and thought a little weekend getaway to unplug and unwind would be the perfect stress relief and a great way to recharge.
As you may remember from a previous blog post, Do Not Pet: My Journey To Overcoming Stranger Danger, we spoke about Kevin’s struggle with anxiety. Just like humans, there are people and places that relieve said anxiety. The place where Kevin feels he can be his complete self and run free without any worry is the beach.
Salty breeze through his floof and sand between his pads makes him one happy guy. When we both needed some good ol’ TLC, we booked a weekend stay at the most dog-friendly beach town on the Oregon coast, Cannon Beach.
Reasons to Love Cannon Beach
Not only is this place on the list of best beach towns along the Oregon coast, but it’s also one of the Top 20 beach towns in America! What could possibly set it apart from all the other beaches? Let me tell you!
It’s iconic scenery. The most recognizable landmark in Cannon Beach is, without a doubt, Haystack Rock. This majestic rock that emerges 235 feet out of the sea will take your breath away. You may have seen it appear in movies such as Twilight, Kindergarten Cop and the 1985 classic, The Goonies.
What really sets this quaint little beach town apart from all the rest are the people who live here. To preserve the small town feel and uplift the local economy, the town purposely doesn’t allow any big box, big name stores from opening in the town. Where you may find a Starbucks or McDonalds, stands locally owned shops, restaurants, coffee shops and other small businesses.

From the wonderful and welcoming customer service to the prime dog-friendly seating, this place should be a must-stop for your places to eat/drink.
Public Coast Brewing Co
With an inviting patio, complete with a fire for those cooler days, you’ll never want to leave.
Wayfarer Restaurant
Love clam chowder? It's a Pacific Northwest staple, especially when you’re visiting the coast. Humans also rave about the cinnamon roll french toast. Topped with Oregon hazelnuts, whipped marionberry butter, and real maple syrup, you can’t get more ‘Oregon made’ than that!
Dog-friendly hotels in Cannon Beach
“But Kevin, where did you and your mom stay?” Great question!
We stayed with our friends at the Hallmark Resort and Spa in Cannon Beach.
Now, when I say this town is dog friendly, this hotel takes it to a whole new level! From a welcome sign with his name on it to a welcome basket just for him with treats and toys. Kevin felt so loved!
We had the best room in the place. A corner room with the BEST view of the beach and Haystack Rock. The sunsets were incredible.
The hallmark was a wonderful place to stay but there are many other amazing places to rest your dogs tired paws after a long day of exploring the tidepools and kite flying.

Surfsand Resort
A hotel that comes highly recommended when looking for a place to stay with your pets. So much so, they're proud winners of Sunset Magazine’s Best Hotel/Resort for Pet Travel award! A place that offers a warm water paw washing station along their beach access path will win points with this big floof who isn’t a big fan of cold water.
Inn at Cannon Beach
Not only pet friendly and has one of the lower pet fees at $20/ night; they really cater to humans as well, giving them complimentary passes to the local gym and yoga studio!
The Ocean Lodge
Just steps away from the shoreline, you’ll fall in love with the amazing architecture; each room is unique. The lodge library has always been popular with guests. From poetry to modern and classic literature, grab a book and curl up by the massive two story, river rock, wood-burning fireplace.
Wayside Inn
For all the humans that enjoy taking an evening dip in a pool or hot tub. It’s across the street from the Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site - Oregon State Parks and you’re just a short walk from the infamous Haystack Rock!
Kevin is a bit biased when it comes to anything regarding the beach but this was one of his favorite stays.
Hopefully, this becomes a recurring thing for us every now and then. But enough can’t be said about this cozy little beach town.
Being in the moment and just spending time together while walking along the beach was something Kevin and I didn’t realize we needed.
This place will forever hold a special place in Kevin’s heart.
